© Gioia Fiammenghi, from the Puffin Classics edition of Pinocchio

Most original fairy tales are much darker than their Disney-fied counterparts. The original Pinocchio tale is far more bizzarre, wild, and ham-fisted than its more recognizable adaptations, but that's exactly what charmed me to it. And as far as I remember or have looked for, no other cartoonist took it so directly head-on like this. So, I wanted to be your guide into this old twisted tale.

For sources, I have bent the spine of the Puffin Classics edition of Pinocchio, as well as any free text of the story I found online and am picking and choosing from either to present this story in the way I see fit. A lot of the characters and drawings in my adaptation have been heavily inspired from illustrations by Gioia Fiammenghi in the Puffin Classics edition of the book, props to her.
